CHRONIC DISEASE CLINICS

Craiglockhart Wednesday 9.00am-1.00pm
Oxgangs Path Wednesday 9.00am-1.00pm

At these clinics the nurses give advice on the management of asthma, COPD, diabetes, ischaemic heart disease and high blood pressure. They monitor all these conditions as well as checks specific to the condition such as peak flow reading or blood tests.

COUNSELLOR

There is a community psychiatric nurse who is available to help patients on referral from the doctor.

DISTRICT NURSES

District nurses are employed by the Primary Care Trust and attached to our practice. They carry out nursing care of our housebound patients over 16 years in their own home, provide support for carers and plan district nursing input.

The District Sister can be contacted by telephoning 443 4467 8.00am to 4.30pm.

FAMILY PLANNING

The doctors give advice during normal surgery times on all forms of family planning.

HEALTH VISITORS

Health visitors provide help and information on a wide range of services including health education, community services and resources. They are involved in the care of families, older people, antenatals, postnatals, the newborn, the development of children and any other family problems which require their expert help. These include parenting classes, breast feeding support groups and antenatal classes. The health visitors Liz Allan (RN RHV) and Morag Hammond (RN RHV) can be contacted by telephoning 445 3093.

Child Care
Baby clinics are held twice a week at both surgeries. Immunisations, developmental and medical checks are carried out.

Senior Citizens
We offer an annual screening questionnaire to all patients over the age of 75 years. Housebound clients can be seen at home.

INFLUENZA IMMUNISATIONS

Patients over 65 years and those identified in high risk groups are offered immunisation against influenza. Vaccines are normally available from the end of September.

MATERNITY SERVICES

Antenatal and postnatal care is undertaken by all the doctors and our team of community midwives during regular surgeries or practice antenatal clinic. In addition, there are parentcraft classes held throughout the year. Please ask the midwife for more details.

MINOR SURGERY

Minor surgical procedures are carried out by the doctors at arranged times.

Well Person Clinics
Well person clinics are run by the practice nurses. A well person check is carried out and includes weight and blood pressure checks. Advice on lifestyle and diet can also be given. Cervical smears can be carried out at these clinics - all women between the ages of 20-60 are recommended to have a cervical smear every three years.
